Design Shenzhen was one of the first international design shows to reopen in China after the pandemic, marking the return of in-person exchange for China’s design industry.
After two years of postponement, the inaugural Design Shenzhen opened at the Shenzhen Convention & Exhibition Center in 2023, becoming one of the first international design shows to reopen in China after the pandemic. Shenzhen was China’s first UNESCO City of Design, and in this city renowned for innovation the show brought together more than 150 international brands and installations, presenting the latest developments in design. Over four days, the show upheld Design Shanghai’s curatorial standards, presenting international brands alongside Chinese design talent. The Design Shenzhen Forum, held alongside the show, took the theme “Regenerative Design: Design for Wellbeing”, exploring humanity, sustainability and technology, and how design can care for both people and the planet. Design Shenzhen brought the industry back together after a long time apart, renewing confidence and energy for the recovery of China’s design sector.
